My 21st Century Classroom

Under Construction

Welcome
Hi, my name is Brayden Romeo and I am a Middle Level Education Major at Edinboro University.  This page is about my future classroom and how it will look, how I will organize it, and how my classroom will be run.  To start off here is a video of why I have chosen this path and what I believe in.

My Classroom

            i.     Introductions:
I am a teacher at Walnut Creek Middle School in Erie, Pa.
There are 24 students in my  classroom, thirteen boys and eleven
girls.  In my class there is one African American, one Asian, and the
rest are Caucasian.  For the general learning composition of my
class room I have 5 gifted students and one student who has dyscalculia.

          ii.     Setting:

      The picture on the
right is
what my
future
classroom
will look
like. To
start off I
have my
desk in the
front corner
of the
classroom
so that I
can see all
of the
students
coming into
the class and see all thestudents during class.  For the students' desks, I have three sitting at each desk so that the students can work together for group work. Ithe front of the class there is a white board and a smart board for everyone to see. I also have a front table for many things.  Students can hand in work there and pick up papers they need.  Also on the front table is the document camera so that the whole class can see what I am doing if necessary. Lastly on the front table is the webcam so that if a student is home sick he/she can still get the information and be in the classroom.  On the far side of the room are iPads for the class.  The class can use these in multiple ways and they will be used as our textbooks.  Finally there is a shelf in the back of the room where the students will be able to get calculators and many other supplies.

I used Google Docs to create the graphic.

         iii.     Integrations

I will integrate at least five technologies in my classroom. They will be...
  1. Smartboards- I can use the smartboard in my lessons to demonstrate example problems. For the students it will be used to get them up and to the front of the class.  They can do practice problems, activities, and more with my help.
  2. iPads- The iPads can be used in many ways.  They will be used as our textbooks, worksheets, and much more.
  3. Document Camera- The document camera will be very beneficial if I need to show something quick on a worksheet and the students will be able to see clearly what I want to show.
  4. Webcam- The webcam will be used for the students that are home sick so that they will not miss class and will not get behind.  Also the webcam gives a chance for guest speakers outside of the classroom.
  5. Facebook/Twitter- These will be used to post hw and allow the students to share information.

  Assistive Technology

Doug is a 7th grade student in my
math class.  He is a bright young teen
but he has dyscalculia.  Dyscalculia is
a severe difficulty in making simple
mathematical calculations, due to
cerebral disease or injury.  To help
Doug I will try to involve some sort of
combination of this list of
technologies. They are hand-held
calculators that can help a learner who
has problems writing numbers in the
correct order, talking calculators that
vocalize data and resulting calculations
through speech synthesis, special-feature calculators that enable the user to select
options to speak and simultaneously display numbers, functions, entire equations,
and results, on screen computer calculator programs with speech synthesis, large
display screens for calculators and adding machines, color coding for maintaining columns, and big number buttons and large keypads.  I got this list from New Albany- Floyd County Consolidated School CorporationAlso to help Doug I will have his desk somewhere close to the front of the classroom and close to my desk. I will give him a little more individual attention during class without having the rest of the class suffer from it.  Then I will also schedule time outside of class to give him further help.  I will make sure that a learning disability will not affect his outcome in my class.

I used Google Docs to create the graphic.

    Self-Reflection

I have learned a lot when it comes to being a future teacher and I have learned in a variety of different ways.  My favorite way of learning that I have gone through is taking risks and learning from my mistakes and successes.  Some of the risks that I have taken is with an after school activity with Lincoln Elementary School in Erie, Pa.  My peers and I will go in and we can do anything we want with the children.  This can be academic or physical activities.  I have taken risks on my activities to see how far I can take it with the students still learning and having fun.  Once the students got a little out of control and it was unsuccessful but now I know how far I can go with the students.  Through this experience I have grown a great deal with being comfortable with a lot of students at once, keeping them under control, and letting the students have fun while learning.
